Let's meet Alexandra Pugliese and Isabelle Fortugno, from the exceptional butcher shop “Maison Lino” in Monaco. Alexandra, Isabelle and the entire Maison Lino team opened the doors to their world for us. Discover this House and what makes this butcher's shop unique.
Introduce us to Maison Lino and the concept of the Comptoir de la Maison Lino
Le Comptoir is not quite a shop but rather the service dedicated to the Individuals of Maison Lino, historically a butcher specializing in restaurants, communities and hotels. This also obliges us to follow more stringent hygiene standards than traditional butchers. Le Comptoir is above all Isabelle on the phone or by email, our butchers who prepare the meats in our workshop, a merchandise collection room here at 7 rue Baron de Ste Suzanne, and a team dedicated to deliveries that crisscrosses Monaco and the municipalities bordering to deliver to you.
Tell us more about your team.
Our team is a small family that has worked together for years. Around Lino, my father, Michèle, my mother, and myself "Alexandra". The butchers cut and the other members of the team collaborate constantly, with Giuseppe, the workshop manager, and Isabelle who leads the sales of the Comptoir. They provide a personalized service for our restaurant and private customers, all with professionalism and in a good mood!
How do you select your products?
My grandfather, then my parents and I today, have always worked with exceptional local breeders, in the hinterland here and internationally. We select top quality products from respected and well-fed animals, favoring Western European origins, to reduce the carbon footprint associated with transport. The quality of products such as concern for animal welfare or the environment are both in our family DNA and meet a strong demand from our customers. And as a house label, we have always tasted and validated all the products we sell! In recent years, we have paid special attention to small family and local breeders, such as lamb farmers from Roya, beef and veal from Puget-Théniers or poultry across the Italian border. This method of selection is now very successful.
What is your specialty or the product you recommend to our users?
Spring is here, and as the Easter holidays approach, we offer a delicious and local product: lamb raised in the hinterland of Nice. For the first barbecues, we have super cool cuts of beef to grill like the picanha or the tomahawk. Not to mention the classics like prime rib or pork ribs.
Do you have future creation projects for Maison Lino?
We have greatly developed sales to individuals in 2020 and have met with clear success with customers who are satisfied with the quality of the products and our local service, all at very competitive prices. We will continue on this path and we are currently working on tools to facilitate online ordering for our private customers, having innovated by digitizing our workshop, among other innovations, because we are constantly looking to improve ourselves.
What do you like most as traders in Monaco?
The village side which allows us to quickly get to know our customers, we form a community with them. CARLO has cemented another community, that of merchants who help each other through the app by motivating customers to consume locally. Technology at the service of the cohesion of the Monaco village, it is really appreciable and reassuring in these difficult times!
